CFA Cat Show! Illini Cat Club - Silver Rain of Dracarys Bengals

Our sweet boy Silver Rain of Dracarys attended the Illini Cat Club's CFA show this past weekend!  He was a huge hit with everyone who came out to see the cats.  Many of the show judges loved him and complimented his amazing temperament and purrsonality!  We hope to see other breeders bringing bengals to the shows as he was the only one present for his breed at this one.

Bamboo's HCM screen

We took one of our rescued pet bengals in for his second screening for HCM this past week.  He fortunately has not had any progression since his last scan in regards to his heart, however there is a concern in regards to his thyroid levels as they were below the level of detection when they conducted his blood draw.

We plan to have Bamboo seen again and have a full blood work up and chemistry of his body with a full thyroid panel being sent off to a University in Michigan to try to find out what is causing Boo to have such a low thyroid level.  Hopefully we can figure out exactly what's wrong so that we can help him to feel better.  Please keep Boo in your prayers!

DRACARYS BENGALS STUD - SILVER RAIN OF DRACARYS

Just wanted to share a quick video of our stud boy Silver Rain aka "Rain Man" when he was a bit younger.  He's such a fantastic cat!

PCR testing for Mowgli!

Today we did PCR panels on Mowgli.  He was such a good boy at the vet!  He even got extra treats for being so good for them.  He wasn't too fond of having to get samples done, but it is necessary to ensure that our cats are healthy before breeding!  We love him either way and pray for a good outcome!  Isn't he just adorable?

As owners of the bengal breed, and avid animal rescuers we came up with an amazing idea to start up a cattery that will not only help to keep the bengal breed alive, but also to assist with rescuing unwanted bengals and educating prospective pet owners about them!

Our goal is to produce high quality bengals with great health and temperaments that will be loved and cared for just as we have done since they came into this world.

We will be representing the breed in both TICA and CFA associations.

Because we also do rescue, we do understand the issue people have with breeding. There are good and bad aspects in every aspect of life. I can honestly say it is very rare to find a true bengal in a shelter and without breeders they could not exist. I know this from first hand experience of trying to adopt a bengal from a shelter over a seven year time frame and never finding one. Just by luck, I found someone who was re-homing one and adopted him. Ryu is a great cat, but he is our personal pet and not a breeder cat.

In researching breeding, yes some people do it improperly. That is not our goal at Dracarys Bengals. We have excellent mentors assisting us with our bengal breedings. We will always seek assistance or advice in anything we do not understand from those who are recognized in the community as being ethical. We are also committed to our cats for their entire LIFE. We never want to see one of our animals placed in a pound, or given away or sold! Our babies are always welcome to come back to us for ANY reason and it will actually be required if purchasing a kitten from us.

Animals have feelings. They are not objects. We love every one of our animals and want them to be placed with the best possible families. If we deny a sale to you, it is simply because we may not feel it is the right fit for our babies. Our responsibility is to the animals as we are creating them and bringing them into the world. At no time do we ever want anything bad to happen to them.

We will rarely sell our Bengals to people for breeding. There are to many people who are irresponsible and we do not wish to contribute to that aspect. We are not implying that we will never sell a breeder, but it will be at our discretion and we will want to consult with others whom have worked with you on a professional level. This will include veterinarians!

Finally, we will require a home check for every single animal that we place into a home! Yes we understand that you are paying for a pet, but to us they are our everything and we want them to not only have a good family, but we also have to ensure that they will have a safe area to reside in.

We will continue to be advocates for cats in rescue as well as working to perfect the bengal breed.
